Several stock dog events were held recently by the Buckeye Cow Dog Association. These events drew a number of new handlers many of which joined the Association.

Oklahoma trainer Gary Ericsson conducted a stock dog clinic Thursday-Friday March 9-10, 2006 at Lavelle Farms in SE Ohio.  17 handlers brought dogs to the clinic. Gary worked one-on-one with each dog and handler throughout the clinic. Many topics were covered depending upon the experience level of the dog and handler. Cattle and sheep were used in the clinic. The weather also allowed some outdoor work. He placed emphasis on reading the stock as well as dog training techniques. Some of the handlers also worked their dogs on horseback.

Following on the heels of the clinic was the final installment of the USBCHA sanctioned Buckeye Cow Dog Association Winter Trial Series March 11-12, 2006. Handlers from 12 states entered 70 dogs on Saturday and 47 dogs on Sunday in 16 stock dog classes. The overall high-point award winner on cattle and sheep was Bruce Fogt and Kate. On March 18-19, 2006, there was a BCDA-USBCHA sanctioned stock dog trial in New Castle, IN. The Hoosier Classic offered Cattle and Sheep classes. Luke and Julie McDonnell did an excellent job organizing the clinic. Bill Reed and Bruce Fogt were among the consistent winners throughout the weekend.
